Statement of Intent
My aim is to produce a website of my work developing and demonstrating my ideas, at the end of my exam I want to present my best photographs clearly to be viewed
My initial research was on a photographer called Don Mccullin I started looking at this photographer because I like the style he uses and how he presents the theme he uses in his picture and how he makes the mood different with different angles and filters and I am going to link my work to show the effect of the theme I am focusing on.
I chose the theme bullying because my initial thoughts were to capture scenes of bullying to show people the effect of it and with bullying it branches off it lots of other themes that link with bullying so I can get more pictures to improve my grade.
To show the progression of my work I will be putting my images in a gallery on my portfolio, to progress I need to expand my locations to a wide variety of places. I have ideas to go and take better photos of bigger places.
The techniques I will use will be different types of style like ISO and aperture and to use photoshop to make my images unique and to take it in different angles.
I have got 8 weeks to produce a good quality portfolio and I will use that time to improve my pictures, experiment on Photoshop and take more pictures to show my theme.
At the end of my portfolio I want to have developed my photos and edited them to make them look better and have a wide range of variety of picture from different places and to be a better photographer by the end

In this photo it shows a family of 3 walking away from a damaged house, the man is holding luggage which might show they are leaving the house because it’s broken the kid has a bottle in his hand. They all have downed faces because they don’t know what to do and there going away from there home. The photo was taken and left with colour, but most are dark and bland the mans red coat and bit of red on women’s dress could show danger cause we could associate red with blood and sometimes death.
Context
This photo was taken by UNICEF to show there are people and kids who need help because they lose there homes and families, the picture show refugees running away to try and survive because they have nothing. UNICEF helps children to have there rights and live a normal life that everyone should be entitled to.
Composition
The focus point is a family that have lost everything and are trying to find a place where they can survive, there is a strong leading line which is that people need help to get what we have in our everyday lives. The lighting is dark to show that it’s not a good day and that they don’t have much light in there life. My eye is drawn to the people and the house because the main part is that a family needs a home but not a damaged one. The background is the countryside which is which shows they are lost and have no where to go.
Connection
The theme is poverty because it shows a family in need of a house, food and water and they can’t get it because they have no money. It can link to my work by showing how no one helps someone when there in need because they don’t know there full life or what there going through. In my opinion there is a message which it a lot of people need help because they have no home or money and are just trying to survive and we don’t know it’s going on.
Comment
I like the image because it has a clear image behind it and it shows a lot about what people’s lives are actually like. I don't like how they have a lot of light it should be darker to set more of a mood, this can inspire me to make , images look better and have a strong meaning behind them. There is a meaning and the photographer took the photo to show people that others lives aren’t like ours they are tougher and we don’t know it’s happening to it shows us that this is the sort of stuff happening while we’re living our lives with everything.

The photographer has used experimentation and used different filters to show the effect of the picture and show that its a dark and gloomy place for the person and how they have lost everything. He has also used background to show that there was a wall and part of it is broken down to show that something bad has happened to this women's house and the photographer has captured it well by showing all the background rubble but also there is contrast where there is a white wall and then contrasts into a figure dressed in black . He has also used a viewpoint by showing the women's feelings which is sad because she has lost her house and the photographers viewpoint is that he knows its a dark and gloomy place and time. The depth of field is quite deep and goes far behind the wall. The rule of thirds is easy to spot because 1/3 is broken rubble and 2/3 is white wall.
Connection
This photo could inspire mine to show the feelings and the effect it has. I like the way they have used experimentation to show the mood and I am going to try this in my work. I also like the way they have portrayed a message behind the photo to make it more meaningful and to show that this is happened when we don't know it.
Content
The content in this picture is wide because it shows the surroundings by having a broken down wall to see behind it and whats going on but also the rubble is blocking parts of it to show how broken down the house is. He has shown a person and has showed there feelings by using a filter and making the women look sad and she is doing actions to show the effect and how it has effected her. The photographer has put the image as black and white to show the contrast of a nice sunny bright day to show the bad gloomy day and the destruction that has happened. In the image it shows a women who looks doomed because she is innocent and her house has been bombed and destroyed.
Bullying posters
Campaigns behind bullying are childline ,unicef and kid scape. The writing on these pictures are bold and not a fancy font. Most of the pictures have dark areas on them and marks on w the effect it has.
In these images I used Photoshop and drew with text to show my point and theme and added colour to make certain parts stand out.
Photo shoot
BestThis is my best picture because it has good lighting,it shows my theme really well and it has a shows the shadow of him so it shows he is a bigger person than him. |
WorstThis is my worst because the light wasn't very good, the colour was dark and and off and wasn't clear and the angle wasn't right. |

Conclusion
In the the project 'conflict' I further researched and decided to focus on the theme of bullying and in my opinion I choose this because it can expand into a lot of different things and the fact its a growing problem. During this project best part I enjoyed the most was going out and experimenting with taking photos around different surroundings. I have experienced many techniques such as Photoshop techniques since I haven't used Photoshop properly and another technique I learned is to use the aperture and shutter speed on the camera this made my pictures look more meaningful. I researched the photographer Don MCcullin.
This influenced my photos and posters by showing the theme in depth and showing different light styles and shadows and showing emotion. I really enjoyed the Photoshop techniques. I feel that the most successful part of my project is my pictures and the outcomes of my Photoshop work because I had put a lot of effort into it and tried my best to make it look really good. I encountered the problem that I wasn't in for a lot of this project but I managed to catch up a bit but my images are a bit thin. I have learned not ton stress and just to try my best and this has effected me massively because its helped me catch up and get up to a good standard.I would do it differently by starting off with everyone else and to try hard to set off at a good pace with everyone and be able to get out more with the camera. My negatives are free of fault because I've tried my hardest to catch up and get to a good standard.
